Fire Door Inspection Survey

What Is a Fire Door Inspection?

A fire door inspection is a thorough check of one of the most critical components of fire protection. Fire doors are designed to contain fire and smoke, helping to protect lives and minimise property damage. Over time, they can suffer from wear, damage, or improper use, making regular inspections essential to ensure they function as intended in an emergency.

Unlike basic visual checks, formal inspections are carried out by qualified professionals who assess whether each door complies with current safety regulations and performance standards. This includes checking seals, hardware, gaps, and certification markings. Fire door inspections are a legal requirement under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 and play a vital role in maintaining building safety and legal compliance.

Why Do Fire Door Inspections Matter?

Fire doors are essential for containing fire and smoke and supporting safe evacuation. Unlike general risk assessments, our surveys check every door and uncover issues like poor fitting, damaged seals, or non-compliant hardware, helping with compliance.

  • Door leaf and frame condition.
  • Correct hinges, locks, and door closers.
  • Intumescent strips and cold smoke seals.
  • Fire-rated glazing and vision panels
  • Gaps between the door and the frame
  • Signage and hold-open devices
  • Fire rating labels (e.g., BWF-Certifire)
  • Installation quality and compliance

Smart Survey Technology

At 1st Choice Safety Training & Consultancy, we use advanced digital tools to streamline and enhance our fire door inspections. Each survey is conducted using a tablet-based system where your building’s floor plans are uploaded and every fire door is tagged with a unique ID and compliance status:

  • Compliant
  • Nominal
  • Non-Compliant

We apply a clear RAG (Red, Amber, Green) rating system to help you prioritise any necessary repairs or upgrades.

All data is compiled into a detailed digital report that links directly to your floor plans, making it quick and easy to locate specific doors and understand the actions required to stay compliant and safe.
